German language - one of the Indoeuropean languages (Germanic group). The number of the Germans in Russia is 842,3 thousand. 41,8 % of them regard German as their mother tongue, 58,0 % Russian. Most of the Russian Germans are descendants of the German colonists who moved to Russia at the end of the 18th and in the beginning of the 19th centuries.
