IchkeriaChechen language - one of the Caucasian languages (Nakh group). Spoken in the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, Dagestan and the Central Asia. The number of the Chechens in Russia is 899,0 thousand. 98,8 % of them regard Chechen as their mother tongue, 1,1 % Russian.

The Chechen literary language was created after the October revolution, first on the basis of the Arab, later Latin, and from 1938 Cyrillic script. A new Latin-based Chechen alphabet was adopted in 1992.
